reducing road casualties

Motorcyclists

In 2008, 88 motorcyclists were killed or seriously injured on Northamptonshire's roads.

In response to this issue Operation Biker was launched in 2004 in order to encompass and co-ordinate a large number of ongoing, or new initiatives, specifically aimed at reducing motorcycle casualties. This operation represents the largest ever partnership collaboration undertaken by Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire County Council. Collision analysis has helped to identify our most dangerous Motorcycle Red Routes and a large menu of interventions, including engagement with the local riding fraternity, is employed in order to influence the casualty rates.

Nationally, around 2% of road users are motorcyclists and yet they make up approximately 20% of all people killed or seriously injured on our roads.

BikeKraft is the Partnership's flagship motorcycle education initiative and plays an important role within Operation Biker.
