reducing road casualties

Drive16

CarKraft Drive16 is a pre-driver course which provides 16 year olds with important road safety information as well as an opportunity at driving and finding out more about the learning to drive process.

The current driving test fails to provide adequate information for students on some of the major causes of road collisions which kill or seriously injure a disproportionate number of young people on our roads. Some of these causation factors include drink/ drug driving, in-car distractions, an over-confidence in ability and peer pressure.

The day includes:
  • Sarting Off Workshop - find out what it takes to get your driving licence and also the realities of owning and running a car
  • Safety Workshop - an interactive session looking at staying safe on the roads
  • Driving Experience - a chance to drive with an approved driving instructor in a dual control car
  • Food and refreshments
  • Free DVD offering advice on how to prepare for your test
We usually run 3 one day courses each year and there are 40 free places available for each course.
You must be a resident of Northamptonshire and aged 16 years only on the day of the event.

LATEST NEWS

All dates for 2010 are now fully booked.

Recent cuts in road safety grants mean that we are currently reviewing education initiatives such as Drive16. A decision will be made in early 2011 as to whether Drive16 will continue or be replaced with a different initiative or whether funding for this type of pre-driver education will be stopped altogether.

If you are interested in applying should events be run in the future please send an email to roadsafety@northamptonshire.gov.uk and remember to put Drive16 in the subject line or telephone 01604 364436 for more information.
