Information for Teachers

Each area from StreetCred is listed along with relevant teaching ideas, worksheets and extra resources you might find useful. You can link directly to games, videos and worksheets. All worksheets are in Word and can be copied or changed for use in your school. Pictures and videos are also available as part of your RoadSafety resources.

Further resources including all the video, photographs, links to other websites and teaching information can also be found on the 'Teachers Site'.

Safety Street
A variety of online games and activities have been produced and collected for KS1 pupils.

Safety Street (game)
If possible use an interactive whiteboard to introduce Safety Street to your pupils. Talk about interesting features on the street. Ask pupils to find different people or items on the street. When a series of red circles appear then a road safety question will be asked.

Safety Street blank worksheet is available as a line drawing for you to use with your pupils.

Safe Clothes
The introductory video shows children wearing fluorescent clothing and shouting the key message "Be Bright Be Seen". Use this message to create posters or word pictures.

The Safe Clothes Game is ideal for pupils working in pairs with support. Basic mouse and co-ordination skills will be required.

A safe clothes worksheet for pupils to colour-in is available. Ask pupils to use bright colours (perhaps from the piles of colours they have made - see activity ideas below) to create good examples, and compare and contrast these with the same pictures coloured with dark crayons or pencils.

Safe Clothes - Activity Ideas

Sort out coloured crayons or pencils into two piles. One for bright 'safe' colours, one for darker colours. (See above idea for worksheet)
Make a list or draw lots of different safe clothes.
Draw a child wearing safe clothing so that they can be seen when they are walking.
Make a floor picture or wall picture using your own clothes.
Bring in some bright safe clothes and some dark clothes to make a good example of safe clothes.

You could use
cut outs from the safe clothes worksheets and children's own pictures to create your own safety scene as a class display.

Walking Safely
The introductory video gives the key message "Hold Hands".

The linked video clips, using a zebra crossing and walking bus can be used as discussion to show good examples of safe behaviour.

Walking Safely - Activity Ideas

Ask the pupils to draw around their hand and that of a friend, then colour them in brightly and form a chain of hands around the classroom.

In the classroom create your own zebra crossing and practise the sequence of "Stop, Look and Listen". Discuss safe places to cross and reiterate the importance of holding hands.
